he Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification may be the most challenging and prestigious of all networking certifications. It has received numerous awards, and certainly has built a reputation as one of the most difficult certifications to earn in all of the computing world. Having a CCIE certification opens doors professionally, typically results in higher pay, and looks great on a resume.

Cisco currently offers several CCIE certifications, with several others that are no longer offered. How do I use Prey to help recover a stolen laptop?

Laptops are stolen all the time. And recovering a stolen laptop is made very difficult when steps have not been taken to help this task get accomplished. Prey is an open source application, available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, that can help you out when your laptop is stolen. Prey takes an ingenious approach to laptop recovery, because once it is installed, it will send timed reports to a configured e-mail address containing information describing its whereabouts. The information collected includes:
1) Status of the computer
2) List of running programs and active connections
3) Detailed network and WI-FI report
4) Screenshot of running desktop
5) A picture of the thief (if the stolen laptop is equipped with a Webcam)

Of course you are probably thinking that this is a lot of information to be sending out, especially since, with this setup, your laptop will be sending out this information even when the laptop isn’t stolen. Ah, but the creators have thought of that as well. You can configure Prey to send out the information only if it finds a certain Web URL that you created in the event of the laptop being stolen. We’ll address that in a bit. First, let’s look at how to get the program and install it.

Getting and installing

Before we start, you should know that Prey requires the .NET library. If your laptop does not have this installed, you will have to install it before you can work with Prey. First download the zip file from the Prey Download Page. Once you have that on your hard drive, unzip the file and open the resulting folder. Within this folder you will see a few executable files. The file you need to concentrate on is PreyConfig.exe.

Configuring Prey

Here is the information you will need to set up Prey:
URL: More on this later
E-mail address: This will be the address Prey sends all information to.
SMTP Server: The SMTP server Prey will use to send e-mail.
Port: The port the SMTP server will use.
SSL: If your SMTP server uses SSL, you will have to check this box.
Username: This is the username for the SMTP server.
Password: This is the password for the SMTP server.

In order to configure Prey, double-click on the PreyConfig.exe file. When the configuration window opens (Figure A), enter the necessary information, but do not enter a URL.

If you don’t want to create an account with Prey, you can go the simple e-mail route.

One thing to note is that if you use Google’s SMTP server you will need to set the port to 587 and click the SSL checkbox.

Before you activate Prey you have to locate the PreyAgent executable command. To do this, click the Activate checkbox, which will open an Explorer window where you can locate the PreyAgent.exe file.

Once you have entered all the information, click the Activate button and you are good to go. Prey will begin to send information to the configured e-mail address in the time increment you have configured.

Setting up a URL

As stated earlier, the developers have created a way for you to pseudo-activate Prey should your laptop be stolen. What you do is create a URL that Prey can check for (it will do so at the time increment configured). When Prey finds that URL, it will then begin to send out the information to the configured e-mail address.

The URL you create is up to you, but make sure you have the capability of creating that URL from anywhere at any time. Say you own the domain http://www.mydomainishere.com. You can configure Prey to check for the URL http:///www.mydomainishere.com/STOLEN.html. If your laptop is, in fact, stolen, create a Web page with that address (you can just create a blank STOLEN.html file as Prey checks only for the existence of the address) and then you will begin to receive information at the configured e-mail address.

When you click the Activate button, a new window will pop up with a message telling you the configuration is OK.

Using the Prey Control Panel

If you choose to create an account on Prey’s site, you can take advantage of their Control Panel for more granular control of your stolen hardware. After you sign up for the service, you will get an activation key, which you will enter in the configuration screen. You will also have to add a new device in the Control Panel. Click the Add New Device button once you have logged in. In this new screen (Figure B), you enter a name, select the device type, select the OS, and then click the Create button. When you create the device, you will be given a device code that you will then enter into the configuration screen.

Problem

In order for Prey to actually work, it will have to be booted up and connected online. This can be avoided unless the first thing a thief does is format your hard drive. If that is the case, you are out of luck.

***Please read the instruction and you must installed old version***
How to bypass TestOut's CCNA 640-802 activation & enable the simulations using their old 640-801 edition.
Make sure you have both versions of Testout's CCNA edition's. 640-801 & 640-802.
I used Disc Images (ISOs) and mounted them with Daemon-Tools.

1. Install Testout CCNA 640-801. Make sure you choose to install the entire thing onto your hard drive.
I'm not sure if it will run without doing an update after the install but I did it anyways. Choose NOT to launch the Testout Navigator and finish the install.

2. Mount or Insert the TestOut 640-802 iso/disc but DO NOT install it. Close the setup.

3. Open the CD drive
where the iso/disc is mounted, goto :\Testout . Select and copy every folder.

4. Goto your TestOut's Program Installation folder. \Program Files\Testout and paste the CD contents you selected earlier.. Make sure you overwrite the existing files. Say yes to all.

5. Go into the \Program Files\Testout\Outlines folder and rename c802cle.xml to ccna3cle.xml.

6. Now go back into the CD and navigate into :\Setup\redist\dotnet20 folder and install dotnetfx.exe

7. You are done...Open the Testout Navigator, create a username(for reports don't worry) and Open the 640-801 module. You'll notice that 640-802 will appear and all the router simulations will work.

8. Double Check to see if Updating is disabled.

The hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer may not be displayed even though you enable the Show hidden files and folders option in the Folder Options. The files and folders can be viewed when using search, or using the DIR /A command from the Command Prompt window.

Also, when you go to open the Folder Options and click the View tab, both the radio buttons Do not show hidden files and folders and Show hidden files and folders may be enabled.

The above symptoms occur if the system is infected by Malware, which modifies the CheckedValue registry value in these branches:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced \ Folder \ Hidden \ NOHIDDEN

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced \ Folder \ Hidden \ SHOWALL

This ploy is used by many Viruses, so that the hidden file (malicious executable or script) won’t be displayed in Explorer. (REF Google Search Results). Also note that some Viruses remove the above option altogether from the View tab of Folder Options applet.

Registry Fix

To fix the above setting, download foldersettings.reg and save to Desktop. Right-click on the file and choose Merge. This fix can be applied in Windows XP as well as in Windows Vista systems.

Reconfigure the Show hidden files and folders option now. Then update your anti-virus software and run a full system scan. And don’t forget to follow-up with a thorough checkup for Malware.

Hide Files & Messages inside Images

Nothing new here, really! Hiding messages inside images has been around since ages. The digital era has greatly simplified this for us, and we will be doing exactly that; hide files in images.

There are numerous ways to hide messages and files in images. So let's take a look at two of them; the first one to hide files and the second one to hide text messages.

Using the command prompt in Windows
This one's quite easy. Create an archive file (i.e a Zip or Rar file) which contains the files you want to hide.
Our aim is to hide this archive file inside an image. Let's assume secretfiles.zip is the archive file and mypicture.jpg is the picture file which will be used to hide the archive.

Now open the command prompt and use the following command:
copy /b mypicture.jpg + secretfiles.zip new.jpg

The above command will create a new image file named new.jpg, which contains secretfiles.zip.
Opening new.jpg will only display the image from the original mypicture.jpg file, so the zip file stays hidden. However, to access the archive, you'll have the open the new.jpg file with programs like Winzip,Winrar,7-zip etc.

This trick can also be used with other image formats like png, gif, tif etc. Additionally, the zip or rar archives can be encrypted(password protected), thereby making it difficult to retrieve even if one knows an image contains these files.

Hide messages using ImageHide
Well, ImageHide 2.0 is a software which is capable of hiding messages in images. However, unlike the previous method, you can't hide files in a picture with ImageHide. Only messages!

As I found out, this isn't the best user-friendly software. It felt awkward sometimes. So I created a quick guide below for using ImageHide.

Hide a message with ImageHide:
Click 'Load Image' to load an image, enter your message in the bottom pane, click 'Write Data' and then hit 'Save Image' to save the image.

View a hidden message with ImageHide:
Click 'Load Image' to load an image and hit 'Read Data' to view the message.

To Encrypt a hidden message:
Create a message as shown above.
Click Encrypt to open an new window. Click Encrypt again in the new window.
You'll be prompted to enter a password. Type in a password and close.
Now click 'Write Data' and hit 'Save Image' to save the image.
Remember the password. It is used to decrypt the message.

If you have a folder with many Word documents, this tip will come in handy, especially when you don't remember which file had the contents.

1. Open Microsoft Word.
2. Go to File >> Open. Navigate to the directory which has the word documents.
3. Select 'Preview' from the Views dropdown menu in the top-right of the dialog box. (See image below)

4. Select a word file from the directory. You can see the preview in the right pane without the need to open the file.

Here are a few tools that let you to take entire screenshot of a page.

Firefox users have choices. Screengrab is a Firefox addon that can take full screen shots.

Once installed, a small icon appears at the lower-right of your screen. Click it and go to -
Save >> Complete Page/Frame.
A Save dialog prompts you to save the screenshot as an image. This also grabs images of login protected pages; like that of your gmail inbox.

Internet Explorer users can consider a free program called Fireshot. Fireshot is also available for Firefox.
